Teen Focused Librarian - Crest Hill Branch (full time)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois is seeking an energetic, creative and innovative librarian to fill a full time Librarian position in the Adult & Teen Services Department at our Crest Hill Branch Library. This position equals 40 hours per week.

The selected candidate will be expected to provide library services of interest to adults and teens including but not limited to reference and readers advisory services, programs, outreach, collection development, and delivery of diverse information services during varied, and at times non-traditional work hours.  Position reports directly to the Adult & Teen Services Supervisor.  

Minimum qualifications: Fully completed MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program.  Applicants should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases, and ability to work days, evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicants will also be required to travel between our facilities as needed. Salary begins at $23.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.

The selected candidate will also undergo a 30 day probationary period, during which time they will be expected to demonstrate certain basic competencies that are considered a minimum requirement for carrying out the duties of this position.

Children's Services Librarians - All Branches (part time)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois, is expanding our children’s services departments.  We are currently seeking to hire three energetic, creative, and innovative Children’s librarians to fill three  newly created part time positions.  These positions are located at our Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville branches.  These part time positions equal 25 hours per week each.  

The selected candidates will be expected to provide a diverse range of professional children’s library services including planning and presenting library programs both in the library and at area schools, collection development, staffing the Children’s desk, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks. Position reports directly to the relevant Children’s Supervisor.

Minimum qualifications: Fully completed MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program required, with two years of experience preferred. Applicant should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases, and ability to work days, evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicant will also be required to travel between library facilities as needed. Salary starts at $23.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.

Are you a Librarian who would like to make a few extra dollars?

The White Oak Library District, with locations in Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville Illinois is seeking librarians with professional ethics and strong public service skills to serve as short term substitute staffing at our public services desks. Ideal applicants will live or work in the area and be available to fill in when regular District staff shortages will leave our desks under-staffed (vacations, conferences, sick days, etc).  Substitute librarians will be expected to provide a diverse range of general library help desk services to all ages. These services will include answering reference questions, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and at times acting as the librarian in charge of the building.

Minimum qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program and reasonable availability to work occasional nights and or weekends. Applicant should have strong computer skills, including Internet and the use of online databases, as well as the ability to learn the basics of the Polaris automation system.  Applicant will also be required to travel between our three facilities, as needed. Salary range begins at $23.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.
