Who We Are

The White Oak Library District, through its Outreach Services, is committed to developing library outreach programs for non-users, the older adult population, and people unable to leave their homes with special needs in the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville.

We can deliver most library materials and resources to older adult groups, facilities, and homebound patrons.

We also help book clubs select their book titles.

We are a member of B'LONG (Bookmobile and Library Outreach Network Group), a local Outreach Services organization, and ABOS (Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services organizations), a national Outreach Services organization.

Librarians attend community events and talk to local organizations. Contact us at 815-552-4247

What We Do

The Library provides one lobby stop per month, per facility, providing an opportunity to:
  • Register or renew a Library card
  • Place holds on materials
  • Pick up materials placed on hold
  • Check out from a small selection of popular materials: regular print fiction & non-fiction books, large print fiction books, magazines, and audio books
  • Return materials
  • Find out information about the Library, Library programs, and its services
  • Outreach Services is committed to providing our senior community with great offsite library services including visits to area older adult communities, senior community centers, and assisted living facilities.
Visit us at one of the lobby stop locations.

Talking Books

The White Oak Library District offers a wide variety of audio books. There is also a mail order and digital program through the Illinois Talking Books and Braille Service (TBBS) program for patrons with a disability. They provide free library service for anyone unable to read regular print because of low vision, blindness, or a physical disability. They register your for talking books and playback equipment. Talking books are mailed free to and from library patrons, wherever they reside. There is no charge, whatsoever, to the patron.

For more information, ask Outreach Services or Contact the Illinois Talking Books and Braille Service (TBBS) 800-426-0709

Older adults unable to come to the library and have donations for the Library may contact Outreach Services. We will pick up donations to deliver to the branches for collection consideration, or for the Friends of the Library on-going book sale.
Adult Volunteer Program
Outreach Services is developing a plan to have adult volunteers assist us. In the meantime, if you are interested in volunteering at our libraries, speak to one of our Branch Managers.

Even More Outreach Services for Adults, Kids, and Teens!

For more information on these, contact our Branch Managers.

Our librarians make recommendations and give presentations throughout our district to get patrons excited about reading! They visit schools and adult organizations.

Enjoy library programming outside the library! Our librarians can bring our resources directly to you through partnerships, festivals, and community events!

Kids can hear a story, win prizes and learn more about the public library when our librarians make visits to area schools. We provide library card sign-ups, program information, and school partnerships

We also work with teachers to make book selections and provide curriculum support through research support, fine-free and extended loan periods on library print materials, homework help, book lists and recommendations, housing textbook collections, online resources, and book bag service.
