Teen Librarian (Lockport Branch)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois is seeking an energetic, creative and innovative librarian to fill a part time Teen Librarian position at our Lockport Branch Library.  This position equals 25 hours per week each.

The selected candidate will be expected to work within a team of peers to provide a diverse range of professional library services to teens and tweens, including planning and presenting library programs, collection development, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, assisting with coverage of other departments in times of need, and a variety of related tasks. Position reports directly to the respective Branch Manager.  

Minimum qualifications: Fully completed MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program.  Applicants should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases, and ability to work days, evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicants will also be required to travel between our facilities as needed. Salary begins at $17.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.  

The selected candidate will also undergo a 30 day probationary period, during which time they will be expected to demonstrate certain basic competencies that are considered a minimum requirement for carrying out the duties of this position.

Adult Services Specialist (Lockport Branch)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois is seeking applicants interested in filling a part-time position in the Adult/Reference Department at our Lockport Branch.  This part time position equals 18 hours per week.

The selected candidate will be expected to provide a diverse range of library patron services including staffing the reference desk, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks. Position reports directly to the Branch Manager.

Minimum qualifications: Must possess a Library Technical Assistant Certificate (LTA), or possess a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.  Adult services/reference experience in a public library preferred.  Applicants should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases, and ability to work days, evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the Polaris integrated library system is a plus. Applicants will also be required to travel between our facilities as needed. Salary range begins at $13.50 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.

Are you a Librarian who would like to make a few extra dollars?

The White Oak Library District, with locations in Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville Illinois, is seeking librarians with professional ethics and strong public service skills to serve as short term substitute staffing at our public services desks. Ideal applicants will live or work in the area and be available to fill in when regular District staff shortages will leave our desks under-staffed (vacations, conferences, sick days, etc).

Substitute librarians will be expected to provide a diverse range of general library help desk services to all ages. These services will include answering reference questions, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and at times acting as the librarian in charge of the building.

Minimum qualifications:
MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program and reasonable availability to work occasional nights and or weekends. Applicant should have strong computer skills, including Internet and the use of online databases, as well as the ability to learn the basics of the Polaris automation system.

Applicant will also be required to travel between our three facilities, as needed. Salary range begins at $17.00 per hour and increases commensurate with experience and qualifications.
