Children's Specialist - Romeoville Branch (part time)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois is seeking applicants interested in filling a part time position in the  Children’s Services Departments at our Romeoville Branch Library.  This part time position equals 25 hours per week.

The selected candidate will be expected to provide a diverse range of library patron services relating to children, including assistance with library programs, collection development, staffing the Children’s desk, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks.  Position reports directly to the Children’s Supervisor.

Minimum qualifications: Must possess a Library Technical Assistant Certificate (LTA), or currently be attending an American Library Association accredited MLS graduate school, or possess a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.  Children’s services experience in a public library preferred.  Applicants should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases, and ability to work days, evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicants will also be required to travel between our facilities as needed. Salary range begins at $18.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.

Children's Librarian - Crest Hill Branch (full time)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois, is seeking an energetic, creative and innovative Children’s librarian to fill a full time position at our Crest Hill Branch.  This full time position equals 40 hours per week.  

The selected candidate will be expected to provide a diverse range of professional children’s library services including planning and presenting library programs both in the library and at area schools, collection development, staffing the Children’s desk, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks. Position reports directly to the Children’s Supervisor.

Minimum qualifications: Fully completed MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program required, with two years of experience preferred. Applicant should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases, and ability to work days, evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicant will also be required to travel between library facilities as needed. Salary starts at $22.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.

Circulation Clerk I - Lockport Branch (full time)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois is seeking applicants interested in a full time Circulation Clerk I position at our Lockport Branch.  This position equals 40 hours per week.

The selected candidate will be expected to handle all aspects of patron services in a team atmosphere at our Circulation desk.  Excellent customer service / people skills are a must.  Position reports to the Circulation Supervisor.

The selected candidate will also undergo a 30 day probationary period, during which time they will be expected to demonstrate certain basic competencies that are considered a minimum requirement for carrying out the duties of the positions.  

Minimum qualifications: Must possess a high school diploma.  Relevant library experience is a plus.  Spanish language skills are a plus.  Applicants should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases.  Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicants will also be required to travel between our facilities as needed. Clerk I salary range begins at $15.50 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.

Are you a Librarian who would like to make a few extra dollars?

The White Oak Library District, with locations in Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville Illinois is seeking librarians with professional ethics and strong public service skills to serve as short term substitute staffing at our public services desks. Ideal applicants will live or work in the area and be available to fill in when regular District staff shortages will leave our desks under-staffed (vacations, conferences, sick days, etc).

Substitute librarians will be expected to provide a diverse range of general library help desk services to all ages. These services will include answering reference questions, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and at times acting as the librarian in charge of the building.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program and reasonable availability to work occasional nights and or weekends. Applicant should have strong computer skills, including Internet and the use of online databases, as well as the ability to learn the basics of the Polaris automation system.

Applicant will also be required to travel between our three facilities, as needed. Salary range begins at $21.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.
